Blue Whale spotted in the Skjálfandi Bay north of Húsavík. Blue Whales
are the largest mammals on earth weighing from 110 - 190 tons and
measuring about 30 meters. It is believed that about 700 to 1000
of the 4000 estimated existing Blue Whales feed around the Icelandic
shores during summer months.

The president of Iceland formally opened the new geothermal spa
facilities at the Blue Lagoon on July 15, 1999.
The Blue Lagoon is located only a 15 minite drive from the Leifur
Eríksson international Air Terminal.

Opened in June 2004, the 5000 m2 lagoon in Mývatn is filled with
geothermal water rich in minerals, silica and blue green algae. These
ingredients offer a nourishing and rejuvenating bathing experience.
The steam baths are built over fissures that allows pure and un-
polluted steam to rise directly from its source.
Architect: Halldór Gíslasson, department dean of architect and design,
Iceland Academy of the Arts.

European to set foot in America, in the year 1000.
