大仏殿 江戸時代(国宝)木造
東大寺伽藍の金堂であるが、大仏殿の俗称で広く知られている。奈良時代聖武天皇により建立されるが、その後二度の兵火に遭い、現在の建物は江戸時代に再建されたものである。その規模は創建当初より3分の1ほど縮小されているものの、なお世界最大の木造建築として堂々たる威容を誇っている。
The Great Buddha Hall, Daibutsuden Wood, National treasure
This is the largest wooden structure in the world, but the original hall, built in the Nara Period (8th cent.), was considerably larger. The present building was constructed at the beginning of the 18th century. The Hall was twice destroyed by fire.
