| Plovdiv ist eine der ältesten Städte in Europa - sie ist ein Zeitgenosse von Troja und Mikena. Auf dem Territorium der Stadt sind viele antike und mittelalterliche Denkmäler entdeckt. In der Altstadt ist ein einmaliges Ensemble aus traditionellen bulgarischen Architektur aus der Epoche der Wiedergeburt (Ende des 18.-19. Jh.) erhalten geblieben. |
Plovdiv is one of the most ancient cities in Europe - contemporary of Troy and Mycenae. In the territory of city there are found many culture monuments from the Antiquity and the Middle Ages. The Old City preserves a unique ensemble of traditional Bulgarian houses from the National Revival period (late 18th - 19th centuries).

gesitueerd aan beide oevers van de rivier de Maas (4), is één van Nederlands oudste steden, want ruim voor onze jaartelling werd dit reeds gesticht door de Romeinen die het de naam Mosa Trajectum gaven. De historie is voelbaar en terug te vinden bij meer dan 1500 monumentan, kleine straatjes en drie pleinen in de binnenstad. De Markt (2) met het statige stadhuis is daar één voorbeeld van. Het Onze Lieve Vrouweplein met de gelijknamige basiliek (1) mag zeker niet op uw stadswandeling ontbreken. Het autovrije Vrijthof (3) met rondom vele restaurants en terrasjes is het bekendste plein en volgens kenners de mooiste van allemaal.
